Call 911 and Get an AED
- Once you know the person is unresponsive, begin getting help.
- First, yell for help: If other people are around, tell them what to do..
- Assign specific roles: Say, “You in the red shirt—call 911! You in the pink dress—get an AED!”
- If you are alone and the person who is unresponsive is an adult, call 911, only after you must begin CPR.
- If the person who is unresponsive child or infant and you are alone, give CPR for 2 minutes first, then call 911.
What is an AED? Automated External Defibrillator.
It is a portable device that shocks the heart back into its normal rhythm if the person is in cardiac arrest. Most public areas have an AED.
